Responsible Gaming

This page sets out how to keep gambling in proportion, and it is honest about what a set of static pages can and cannot do about that. It also points to where independent help is linked from every page of this site.

Before You Start

Decide the amount you are willing to spend before you begin, and treat that amount as already spent the moment you commit to it. This removes the need to make a judgement call in the middle of a session, when you are least likely to make a careful one. Once that amount is gone, stop: chasing a loss by playing longer or staking more only increases the size of the loss, it does not recover it.

Keep gambling money separate from money earmarked for bills, rent or anything borrowed. Money that was never meant for gambling puts pressure on decisions that should be made calmly, and borrowed money turns a leisure cost into a debt. Taking regular breaks, and stopping for the day at a time you set in advance rather than a time dictated by whether you are winning or losing, keeps the activity in the category of entertainment rather than something that runs your evening.

If gambling stops feeling like entertainment and starts feeling like something you need to do, involve someone else early: a friend, a family member, or one of the independent organisations linked below. Problems are far easier to deal with before they become large.

Limits and Where They Live

Controls such as deposit caps, loss caps, reality checks, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion are all things you set up inside an account at the operator you are gambling with, not here. This site has no account system, no form and no server that processes an application of any kind, so nothing published on it can switch on, check or enforce any of those controls. If you want a deposit limit, a loss limit, a reality check, a cooling-off period or self-exclusion, that has to be arranged directly at the destination site once you are there, using its own account controls.

In the same way, nobody's age is checked on this site, and no gambling of any kind takes place on it. Any age check happens at the destination, after an operator link has taken you there. Each operator listing on this site repeats that gambling is restricted to those eighteen and over, and that restriction also appears on the front page.

This site carries no advertising network and no behavioural profiling of any kind, so nothing on these pages is targeted at a reader based on past behaviour. Every operator listing also ends with the same line: check availability and the current terms at the destination before claiming anything, since eligibility rules and terms apply there and can change without notice.

Independent Help

Every page of this site, including this one, carries links to three independent gambling-help organisations: begambleaware.org, gamblingtherapy.org and gamcare.org.uk. These are the only links on the site that are not commercial. Unlike the operator links, they carry no sponsored marking, they are set to nofollow, and they open in a separate tab on the organisation's own site. This site receives nothing when a reader follows one of them.
