Captain Hook’s Revenge
Wednesday 9th December
Venturing down dark, muddy and leafy lanes yet again (why did I buy a white car!) I came to a village where the Roadwater Players were presenting Captain Hook’s Revenge and what a good evening this was going to turn out to be. This was a bright and upbeat pantomime with excellent set design. All principals, chorus and junior members held the show together with total confidence.
There were some fine performers in this production. This was particularly noticeable with Captain Hook and Michael Darling (I loved those ears – wot wot!)
I felt Act 1 was a little on the long side and tighter script editing may have been an advantage. I thought that the Darling Joke Shop scene missed a golden opportunity to have had much comedy byplay and interaction. The audience would have been on your side all of the way with any joke props or pranks played on them, such as water pistols, whoopee cushions, spiders and things!
This however, was a fine show with a large cast and good band. As I was leaving the hall I could hear many comments stating that it had been the best pantomime performed from this society. I think they may well be right.
