At the start of this pantomime season I head to the village of Nether Stowey where the Quantock Players are presenting Beauty and the Beast.
Here is a society that takes on board our comments and improves year in year out.
By choosing Lazy Bess Scripts, they had a fun – filled pantomime with all the ingredients. Some Beauty and the Beast scripts can be a little on the dark side in places so this was an excellent choice.
The many talents of Mike Onions held the show together with his excellent comical portrayal of Goody Two Shoes, a good Fairy.
All other cast members, including Bovver Boots, Belle and Smelle, showed real commitment to their roles.
It was endearing to see so many young children on stage. ‘Girls and boys came out to play’ was beautifully portrayed and created nostalgia.
I enjoyed the antics of Dobbin the horse. As he was a little unsteady on his back legs, I was uncertain if he had been on the sherry or the pony’s!
The last night meant there were a few in – house – gags. What really was inside that box Belle? The giggles then broke out and the pace was lost a little.
Sets were brightly painted while lighting and sound were once again first class.
It was evident that the packed audience were with you all of the way. You certainly put on a show that had us all laughing from beginning to end.
